Did anyone help samuel morse invent the telegraph?

In 1837, Morse began experimenting with an electrical telegraph, and he soon had a working model. He needed a way to send a signal over a long distance, so he enlisted the help of Alfred Vail, a young inventor. Together, they developed a system of dots and dashes that could be used to communicate messages. In 1844, they sent the first public telegraph message, "What hath God wrought," from Washington, D.C. to Baltimore, Maryland. Morse and Vail continued to refine their invention, and by the 1850s, the telegraph was being used across the United States and Europe.
