Did denzel improvise in training day?

It's no secret that Denzel Washington is one of the most talented actors of our generation. He's been nominated for eight Academy Awards, winning two, and has starred in some of the most memorable films of the past few decades. So it should come as no surprise that he would be able to improvise on set, even in a movie as intense as Training Day. According to director Antoine Fuqua, Denzel was always coming up with new ideas and ways to make his character, Alonzo Harris, more interesting. "He's always thinking about the character," Fuqua told The Hollywood Reporter. "He's always thinking about the scene." One of the most memorable scenes in the movie is when Alonzo takes the rookie cop, Jake Hoyt (Ethan Hawke), into a drug den to buy some cocaine. Jake is clearly uncomfortable and out of his element, but Alonzo is in his element. He's in control and he knows what he's doing. But the thing that makes the scene so great is that it's not entirely scripted. Denzel improvised a lot of the dialogue, including the line "it's all good" when Jake asks if they're going to be alright. It's just one example of how Denzel was able to bring his own unique flavor to the role and make it his own. He's a true artist and one of the best actors of our generation.
