Jabbawockeez is an American hip-hop dance crew, best known for their appearance on the second season of the television show America's Best Dance Crew. They were declared the winners of the show on February 28, 2008. The group was formed in 2003 by members Kevin "KB" Johnston, Phil "Swagger Boy" Tayag, and Ben "B-Tek" Chung. The name "Jabbawockeez" was created by Johnston, who combined the words "jabba", a slang term for "clown", with the wockeez from the 1960s cartoon The Jetsons. Johnston, Tayag, and Chung met while attending college at the University of California, Irvine. The three founding members began to search for additional members to join the crew. They held auditions in San Diego and Los Angeles, and eventually recruited eight additional dancers: Randy "Mijo" Bernal, Jeff Nguyen, Chris "Cristyle" Gatdula, Joe Larot, Rynan "Kid Rainen" Paguio, Phil "Pacman" Dominguez, Brandon "BG" Tobias, and Ricky "Miss Ricky" Escalante. The Jabbawockeez first gained national attention after appearing on the first season of America's Best Dance Crew, in which they were eliminated in the second round. Despite their early exit, the crew's unique style and outgoing personalities made them fan favorites, and they quickly began to gain a following. In 2008, the Jabbawockeez auditioned for the second season of America's Best Dance Crew. They were selected as one of the top eight crews and went on to win the competition. Since winning America's Best Dance Crew, the Jabbawockeez have gone on to perform on stage and television shows across the country, including the MTV Video Music Awards, Dancing with the Stars, and The Ellen DeGeneres Show. They have also been featured in commercials for companies such as Xbox 360, Hanes, and Target. In 2010, the Jabbawockeez starred in their own reality television show, Jabbawockeez: Make Your Move, which followed the crew as they prepared for their first headlining show in Las Vegas. The Jabbawockeez are currently working on their next album, due out in 2016. They continue to tour nationally and perform to sold-out crowds.
